Nick Aldis Discusses When He Found Out About WWE In-Ring Debut, Oasis As His Entrance Theme And More
Nick Aldis has reflected on his WWE in-ring debut.
Last night, Nick Aldis competed in a ring for the first time since 2023. After years of WWE fans wondering if the former TNA World Champion would lace up the boots one more time, the Brit came out to Oasis’ “Morning Glory” to take on GUNTHER at SummerSlam Saturday. Less than 24 hours on, “The National Treasure” has revealed more about his in-ring return.
Speaking on WWE Now, Aldis touched on only having around a months’ notice that the company wanted him to wrestle at SummerSlam.
“When Ed [Koskey] told me, that was in Saudi Arabia, I went, ‘When is SummerSlam?’ He said, ‘August 1st.’ ‘Right. Today is June 30th? Or the 29th? That’s a month, Ed. There is a big difference between physique shape and ring shape. I am not in ring shape. You have an awful lot of faith in me.’”

Particularly in the UK, fans’ ears will have pricked up when Oasis began blasting over the speakers at U.S. Bank Stadium. Addressing his theme, Aldis went on to recall asking Triple H for the song.
“Morning Glory, I would always listen to that song and I would always visualize like, ‘God, this would be a killer entrance song.’ I’m talking about when I was a kid. ‘God, walking out and then right as that bit kicks in.’ And then as you progress in the business, you start to sort of figure out how things work. I put it to the back of my mind like, ‘It’s not likely. It’s not gonna happen.’ And then Hunter text me a couple of weeks ago and said, ‘Perfect world, if you could have any music, license any music for you, any song, nothing is off the table, what would you have?’ And I kind of went through my mental. I went, ‘F*cking Morning Glory.’ He had mentioned something about maybe something British, British band or something. And I suddenly went, ‘Morning Glory.’ I thought it won’t happen, but I’ve got to ask. I’ve got to at least try. I literally text back, ‘Ideal world, no restrictions, it’ll be Morning Glory by Oasis.’ I sent a few other ideas like Muse and Kasabian, a few other things, thinking they might be a bit more manageable. Didn’t hear anything more about it. And I just kind of thought, ‘That’s alright, whatever.’ Yesterday at SmackDown.. ‘Kayfabe, but we got Morning Glory.’ And I was like, ‘Whoa, what?’”

On a personal level, the match allowed Aldis’ son to see him wrestle. On this, the star opened up on what last night meant for his family.
“Mickie [James] told me, and I think she tweeted about this, too. In Green Bay, when they were chanting, ‘Let’s go, Aldis.’ My son, he’s grown up around wrestling. He’s been around wrestling his whole life. So to him, it’s just sort of like mom and dad’s work. But he goes, ‘Mom, they’re chanting for our family.’ And she was kind of like, ‘Oh yeah, you’re right.’ That’s probably surreal for him to hear a whole arena chanting. ‘Oh, that’s my name.’”

After coming in as the SmackDown General Manager in 2023, Aldis stepped back from the role in order to face GUNTHER last night. It’s likely that the 39-year-old will now return to duties as an on-screen authority figure, though many will be left to speculate whether there could be more in-ring appearances coming in future. While nothing is confirmed, Triple H did say the old cliché of ‘never say never’ with regard to Aldis’ wrestling career in WWE.
Also in the post-show press conference, Triple H addressed initial concerns over Brie Bella’s arm injury, suggesting that early impressions aren’t looking positive. You can read more about that here.
