Darby Allin Says Sting Taught Him How To Conduct Himself Outside Of The Ring

Darby Allin has revealed the most important lessons that “The Icon” Sting taught him.

When Sting came to All Elite Wrestling at the first Winter Is Coming event in 2020, a big question many had was who on the roster “The Icon” would attach himself to and mentor. The obvious answer was Darby Allin, and AEW had them connect immediately, going on a tear together that led not only to tag team title gold, but also to a genuine friendship between the two. In a chat with Forbes Sports, Darby talked about the most important lesson that Sting taught him.

“Yeah, how to carry yourself out of the ring. We’re talking about a guy who’s done everything there is to do in the industry, and when you talk to him, he’s the most humble, chill guy. He doesn’t big league anybody, and that’s kind of what I realized later on because there’s so many egos where it’s like, ‘Oh, I can’t show any weakness.’ He’s so chill and so happy all the time. That’s what I hold on to most now that his career ended—how he conducts himself when the 15-minute ride is over. That’s what kind of inspired me the most.”

Sting is universally beloved in the wrestling space, and many fans were thrilled when Sting continued to support AEW and Darby Allin, after his retirement match in 2024. He was even there when Darby won the world title earlier this year in April. Next up for Darby is a TNT title match with Kevin Knight at All In: London. These two have already had two great matches on AEW Dynamite in the past year, and expectations are high for the upcoming Falls Count Anywhere match.
