Darby Allin Felt “Nothing” Upon Winning AEW World Title At First

Darby Allin didn’t immediately take in his AEW World Championship victory.

AEW have had three different world champions in 2026, with Darby Allin’s 39-day reign in April and May arguably proving to be the most popular and beloved. He went full-tilt throughout his run, defending the belt every week against top contenders and only losing once he had nothing left in the tank to give.

That mindset also extended to Allin’s reaction to winning the title at AEW Spring BreakThru, as he admitted that he did not immediately feel much emotion about the achievement. Speaking to Forbes Sports, Allin explained why.

“It’s funny because I felt nothing, and that’s because my body was so depleted. I was so beat into the ground leading up to that week, dude. It took everything to get to that point. So afterwards, it felt numb. It was crazy. But moments after, when I finally got to the back and started to decompress, I realized that I climbed to the top of AEW without having to compromise myself, and that meant everything to me. Because to me, what’s the point of becoming a world champion if you’re just an industry plant and what you’re doing is not from the soul and isn’t pure? Like, hey, we’re going to tell you what to do every step along the way, and then we’re going to put something on you. Well, what’s the point of that? So the fact that I was able to do that in AEW without compromising anything was everything to me. So yeah, that night was incredible.”

Darby has spent his entire AEW career going 100% in every match, regardless of who he is facing or how long the contest lasts. He has already said that he intends to be an AEW lifer, largely due to the respect he shares with founder Tony Khan, who has never tried to change him. His unwavering approach has also made him a fan favourite, with many continuing to rally behind him.

Looking ahead, Darby Allin is set to face Kevin Knight in a Falls Count Anywhere match for the TNT Championship in less than a week at All In: London. True to Darby’s persona, however, he was caught in a massive firework explosion caused by Knight on last week’s Dynamite, yet he remains willing to go through with the match.
