Will Ospreay Reveals Baba O’Riley Wasn’t His First Pick For AEW All In: London Package
Will Ospreay reveals he wanted a different song for his AEW All In: London entrance.
In wrestling, song choice can set the tone, both with entrances and pre-match video packages. Prior to taking on Kenny Omega at All In: London, Will Ospreay walked through the backstage area with Baba O’Riley by The Who accompanying “The Aerial Assassin” as he passed figures of his past. It appeared to be a fitting way for the challenger to enter the Wembley main event. Yet, at first, the new AEW World Champion didn’t want that to be the song he emerged to.
Speaking with Chris Van Vilet on Insight, Will Ospreay revealed he initially wanted another song at All In.
“There was a song that we wanted, but we just couldn’t get a license fee for it. I won’t put it out there because maybe one of these days I will be able to track it down again. I’d like to leave that as a surprise. But it was Mike Mansury that came up with the idea of The Who Baba O’Riley. I’ll be honest with you, I have a connection with that song because there was a music video from the MV Zone. It was like a kind of little backyard wrestling music video group, and they did a Bryan Danielson tribute to that song, so I have a little bit of a connection to it. I was just okay, I quite like the idea and The Who is British as well, so that’s kind of cool. But I remember listening to it and on the travels that me and Al did, and I was just like, I don’t know if I feel it. The other song that I wanted got my juices flowing. It was my favorite song. I don’t know if I feel it. It was only when I heard the voiceover and I saw the clips that were all around it. I was like, this is perfect. This is it. Don’t change a thing.”

While we don’t know which song he had in mind, the music seemed to fit the moment well as the video highlighted his journey from then to now. During a key section of the song, names he came face to face with include UK standouts Zack Sabre Jr. and Michael Oku, as AEW talent he has history with like Ricochet and Jon Moxley, laying the foundation for the Wembley main event.
Speaking of Moxley, the new champion’s first title defence will come against his former mentor when they lock horns at All Out on September 26th. Elsewhere on the card, fans can look forward to Divine Dominion vs. The Brawling Birds in a Chicago Street Fight, a ladder match between FTR, The Young Bucks, and Cope and Cage, and more.
Prior to Ospreay’s walk through the backstage area, the video package showing his journey featured a voiceover from his mother. Elsewhere in the interview, he recalled asking her to record the narration, including his first reaction. You can read more about that here.
