Lil Yachty On The Gingerbread Man’s Funeral: It’s Fun, Some Fans Just Want Five-Star Matches

Lil Yachty tells WWE fans not to be uptight about segments like the gingerbread man’s funeral.

On the May 8 edition of SmackDown, Trick Williams held an over-the-top funeral for the gingerbread man mascot that had been a feature of his segments to mock Sami Zayn. As the segment advanced, the Canadian came out to rundown the silliness of the segment, only for the gingerbread costume to rise from the casket and attack Zayn, revealed to be Williams’ associate Lil Yachty. Naturally, the staged funeral received a lot of criticism from fans online, but one of the men involved has now encouraged fans to lighten up with regard to silly segments.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Lil Yachty urged fans to not be uptight about segments like the gingerbread man’s funeral.

“It [the Gingerbread Man funeral] was so silly. I mean, again, people forget it’s entertainment, and it’s supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to be fun, and yeah, it’s good wrestling, but it’s entertainment and fun and have fun, man. Don’t be so uptight. Sometimes I be thinking it’s like, damn, you just want a card full of five-star matches.”

Yachty’s presence on SmackDown has only grown since first being introduced as a hype man for Trick Williams back in March. After playing a key role in the feud with Sami Zayn, Yachty made his in-ring debut for WWE on September 6’s Sunday Night’s Main Event, lasting five minutes in the ring with Baron Corbin to earn his partner a United States Championship match later that night.
