Cody Rhodes Revealed He Had An Idea To Sell His Soul To NXT’s Ava Instead Of The Rock

Cody Rhodes thought about giving his soul to Ava rather than The Rock.

In the build to Elimination Chamber 2025, The Rock wanted Cody Rhodes to sell his soul to become a corporate champion. Of course, in the end, it was John Cena who sold out to “The Final Boss” completing a stunning heel turn on the road to WrestleMania 41. However, Rhodes has now revealed another idea he had in the lead up to Cena aligning with The Rock.

Speaking on his What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, Rhodes revealed his idea to sell his soul to NXT General Manager Ava instead of The Rock.

“When The Final Boss asked me for my soul, I don’t know did you [Simone Johnson] ever tell him this? I never shared it with him. We kept it between us. When he asked me for my soul, I thought, ‘You know what would’ve been funny? Is to relent and give my soul, but not to him.’ This is at a time when you were the NXT General Manager, to you. I thought that’s got legs. I’ll never say a word again. She’ll speak. We would’ve crushed that. Often people are, ‘He don’t want to be a bad guy.’ I’m open to all things. Whatever is the best, but I thought that would’ve been a real good spin.”

Rhodes would go on to lose the Undisputed WWE Championship to John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 41’s second night. However, despite his pivotal role in the build, The Rock wasn’t featured on-screen throughout the entirety of Cena’s 17th world championship run. If “The American Nightmare” had seriously pushed for his idea to become reality, things could’ve been very different around March 2025.

As it stands, though, Rhodes is still yet to play a heel character since coming back to WWE in 2022. However, remaining a babyface certainly hasn’t hampered his success, with the star being a three-time WWE Champion since first finishing the story at WrestleMania 40.
