Kota Ibushi To Get Second Surgery, Promises To Be Back In AEW

Kota Ibushi is set to have another surgery, but wants to return to AEW.

Injuries in the wrestling business can happen at any time, and in the most innocuous of ways. Kota Ibushi has long been a fan-favorite wrestler, and when he made his official debut in AEW, many hoped it would be a long and fruitful run to help end his career. Yet, while competing against Josh Alexander on October 8, 2025, Ibushi sustained a broken femur which has kept him out of the ring ever since. Now, the star has given an update on his status.

On his Instagram, Ibushi revealed he’s set for a second surgery on his femur, underlining his goal of returning to AEW.

“I am being hospitalized starting today. Tomorrow, I will undergo a second surgery on my femur. They will remove all the current plates and replace them with the strongest available option, as the doctors said my current ones were simply too weak for my body and leg. Why now? It makes absolutely no sense to me. I am so exhausted from having to go through surgery after surgery. But I am not giving up. I refuse to let something like this end my professional wrestling career. I will make sure this surgery is a success and absolutely return to AEW!”

While it is sad that another surgery awaits Ibushi, it is great to hear that he’s not giving up on his wrestling career. All Elite Wrestling is stacked with talent right now, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have a place in it.

It’s fair to say many fans would love to see Ibushi back in AEW, not least due to the potential of a possible Golden Lovers return. Though, of course, Ibushi’s health takes precedent, and we wish him all the best in his surgery and recovery.
