Thekla Recalls First Interaction With Mick Foley, Says Foley Was Emotional Talking About Her Work

Thekla says Mick Foley got emotional when they first met.

On the May 28, 2025, episode of Dynamite Thekla made her AEW debut by attacking Jamie Hayter. Since that time, she’s gone on to win the AEW Women’s World Championship, defeating Kris Statlander on the February 11 Dynamite in a strap match to cap off her incredibly quick rise to the top of the company’s women’s division. Now, it seems her work has really resonated with a legend of the industry.

Speaking with TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Thekla recalls her first encounter with recent AEW and wrestling legend Mick Foley, saying he was getting emotional expressing how much he loves her work.

“I was going over some sh*t and he must have seen me from afar. I’m super shortsighted but I could tell he wanted to say ‘Hi’. It was my first time meeting him ever, so I stopped what I was doing and came over. He just said some very, very nice things. Along the lines of ‘ In the 30 years of my career or more that I’ve been doing this, it becomes more rare with time passing that you see something new and refreshing.’ Once he stumbled over my stuff, he thought it was very cool. That was very nice for being a first interaction because he was getting emotional”

Foley has been with AEW since May, first appearing as a co-host of the Double Or Nothing Buy-In. In the following weeks, he performed as a mediator in some in-ring segments, including one involving Thekla herself as “The Toxic Spider” came face to face with Willow Nightingale prior to Redemption.

Thekla is often praised for her character work and delivery on the microphone, which helps her stand out from the rest of the locker room. Her unique style certainly helped her cultivate a fanbase that helped propel her to world championship success earlier this year.
