Mercedes Moné Confirms Her Nose Is “Still Very Much Broken”

The AEW Women’s World Champion is still hurt, but that won’t keep her out of the ring.
At All In: London, Mercedes Moné won the AEW Women’s World Championship from Willow Nightingale. However, during the match “The CEO” suffered a broken nose. As such, she wasn’t cleared to defend it at All Out the following month, though she’s since notched two defences, one against Queen Aminata at Grand Slam: France, and the other last night at AEW WrestleDream against Thekla. Now, Moné has addressed the status of her nose injury.
During the WrestleDream media scrum, she spoke on her health status, saying her nose is still broken.
“I’m one month and a half-post surgery on my nose. It’s still very much broken and I’m still pushing through every single week, but I love what I do. I love defending my Women’s Championship, and I’m here to be the best. So just having a broken nose, it’s not gonna faze me. It’s not gonna stop me from defending this. This is my destiny, so I’m ready to give everything I have for it.”

Mone proved that last night by having a very physical bout against “The Toxic Spider” in which she removed her protective mask before using it to hit deck Thekla to get a temporary upper hand. This raised questions over whether the problem had gone away for the title holder, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
As for what’s next for Moné, that’s unclear. Thekla had been the main challenger ever since she appeared on All In’s Buy In, with attention now turning to who else steps up. Much is likely to be revealed on Dynamite as the road to Full Gear begins, but it should also be said that the company will put on Blood and Guts in a matter of weeks, with Mercedes perhaps looking to compete in the bout for the second successive year. For now, though, whether that happens remains to be seen.
