Will Ospreay wants Clockwork Carnage to happen again in AEW.

Last night, Clockwork Carnage made its AEW debut at WrestleDream. Being a creation of Will Ospreay’s making, the stipulation made its debut in Pro Wrestling EVE, before he then brought it to his home promotion on October 17. With most having enjoyed its chaotic nature, the AEW World Champion has looked ahead to how it could fit into the promotion’s schedule in future.

At the AEW WrestleDream media scrum, Ospreay and Tony Khan discussed what could happen with the match going forward. The AEW Men’s World Champion noted that he feels this could be an annual thing the promotion does, making it different from things like the Casino Gauntlet, which Tony Khan noted was made to be more of a big TV match than a pay-per-view one.

“If it could go yearly, that would be great. That would be amazing. I would say yearly, but obviously, like, the Casino Gauntlet happens sporadically as well. And every time that happens, it’s a huge success.”

A key section of the match happened at the end when Adam Copeland fought Will Ospreay to get the final pins to come out on top. Ospreay got the better of that exchange, and thanked him in the scrum for the moment.

“It was amazing to be in the ring with Cope tonight. It was truly an honor. As a kid when I found out he retired, broke my heart. Mended it when he came back to wrestling. Mended it when he came over to AEW. Truly honored to be in the ring with you today, sir.”

Speaking of Ospreay and Adam Copeland, the end of Clockwork Carnage saw the two men shaking hands, before the defeated challenger noted he’s still coming for the AEW Men’s World Title. That could mean the two will clash at Full Gear or World’s End; but fans know “The Rated R Superstar” doesn’t have long before his retirement. As soon as we hit January, speculation will ramp up as to when Copeland will call time on his career, particularly as Tony Khan recently admitted he’s not sure how long into 2027 the legend will want to wrestle. You can read more about that here.

The Casino Gauntlet remains one of the more popular match types in AEW, and one of the promotion’s most unique offerings, but fans can certainly tire of the format if used too much. Therefore, if Clockwork Carnage is something that crops up once a year, it could prevent it from getting stale without irritating those who weren’t on board coming out of last night’s show.
