Tony Khan: I Don’t Know How Far Into 2027 Adam Copeland Will Want To Go

Tony Khan has discussed the news that Adam Copeland will retire in 2027.
On last night’s AEW Dynamite, Adam Copeland directly addressed his future. While revealing the extent of Christian Cage’s injuries heading out of All Out, “The Rated R Superstar” opened up on the fact he doesn’t have long left in his career. To that end, he confirmed 2027 would be his last year as an active wrestler, and Tony Khan has now talked more about Copeland’s announcement.
On the AEW WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan first noted he doesn’t know exactly how far into 2027 Copeland wants to wrestle.
“I knew Adam was going to say that 2027 is his last year. I’m very close with Adam. I speak to Adam very, very regularly, and of course, as the producer of the show, I’m going to talk to him about what he wants to say on the microphone. I think he’ll have a great run here throughout the next year and into 2027. I don’t know how much longer exactly Adam will want to go, but I would say this is what he talked to me about that 2027 was going to be the last year he would want to wrestle, and I’ve accepted that.”

It’s fair for there to be vagueness about when Copeland will retire, given the equally shocking reveal that Christian Cage was severely hurt in the ladder match at All Out. Anything can happen in wrestling at any time.
In that same call, our own Carlos Aguilar asked about whether Cope could compete at the Tokyo Dome before the end of his career.
“I think that’s a very fair question for you to ask, but I would say that I will keep that between myself, Gedo, and Adam. I am very cognizant of what you’re asking, and it’s a very fair question to ask. But I would say, stay tuned on that.”

Earlier this year, Adam Copeland noted his bucket list of venues he wanted to wrestle in before he retires. Arena Mexico, Wembley, the Maple Leaf Gardens Center and the Tokyo Dome were all on that list, and he’s checked the first three of said list.
Heading out of the recent New Japan King Of Pro Wrestling show, tensions have escalated between AEW and NJPW talent, with many crossover matches already being set up for upcoming shows. As such, Copeland’s dream of wrestling at the Tokyo Dome could become a reality before the curtain falls on his career.
In fact, four matches have been announced for next month’s Power Struggle pitting AEW stars against their New Japan counterparts. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Adam Copeland’s 2027 retirement as soon as we hear more.
