Jeff Jarrett Defends Pants-Related Comedy Spot In AEW WrestleDream Match

One particular part of the Ciampa vs. Andrade match at AEW WrestleDream continues to be discussed.
Wrestling is a multifaceted thing, with the style of a match often depending on who is in the ring. At WrestleDream, Tommaso Ciampa and Andrade El Idolo had a hard-hitting affair that was memorable for its comedy elements, such as Andrade going for his selfie with a female fan, Ciampa revealing the “I Just Know” trunks he wore, and so on. But since the match happened, the thing that is talked about the most in certain online circles is when Andrade took off his pants, and Tomasso Ciampa “fought” them, tried to pin them, and then the pants were shown as having kicked out of the pinfall attempt. Now, a legend of the industry has had his say.
Jeff Jarrett on his My World Podcast has defended the spot, saying creativity is subjective.
“‘Funny don’t draw money’ is such a situational… I just don’t think you can paint it, creative is subjective. When you have a live quote unquote focus group, for the most part, they’re gonna tell you did that work or not… Did you hear the reaction? And I get it. To each his own. It’s not for everybody.”
-Jeff Jarrett
The key element here is that it’s not for everyone, although it’s worth noting that it did seem to work for those in attendance. It’s fair to say moments like the one in the National Championship match at WrestleDream are divisive in nature, so the pushback online probably wasn’t a surprise to either man involved.
Regardless, Andrade was able to notch the seventh defence of his gold, having held the belt for 87 days. Conversely, this leaves Ciampa having suffered two straight losses in title matches on pay-per-view.
