Jeff Cobb thinks WWE mistook him for someone else during his run.

Having debuted in WWE at Backlash 2025, Jeff Cobb was immediately positioned as a member of MFT, a splinter group of The Bloodline. As part of the faction, members would sometimes appear wearing black and white face paint, acting as a callback to Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa’s time as Guerrillas of Destiny in New Japan. However, it appears WWE had gotten confused over Cobb’s history, or lack there of, when it comes to wearing paint.

Speaking to SOTO619wrestling, Cobb revealed WWE thought he himself had worn face paint in Japan.

“Paint [was more annoying to wrestle in than a mask] because I’d never done that before. Although to be fair, I’d never done the mask thing before, but the paint was truly different. I was told, ‘You’re gonna wear the paint like you did in Japan,’ and I never wore paint in Japan. I think they got me confused with somebody else.”

Cobb was unfortunately let go from WWE as part of their all-too-familiar yearly cuts around a year after coming in. During his time there, the group held the WWE Tag Team Championships, with the man then known as JC Mateo subbing in for Tama Tonga on the night they lost the gold. Now, he finds himself back in New Japan Pro Wrestling as a member of Unbound Co.

While many of Cobb’s fans were left disappointed with his WWE tenure, he revealed elsewhere that it wasn’t for the lack of trying, as asked the company for more matches prior to his release. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Jeff Cobb as soon as we hear more.
