Buddy Matthews Cancels WSW Appearances, AEW Return Could Be Soon

Buddy Matthews may be on his way back to All Elite Wrestling very soon.
Having been out of action since an ankle injury at Grand Slam: Australia 2025, it’s been well over a year since Buddy Matthews last wrestled in AEW. He was finally cleared to return to the earlier this year, but is still yet to resurface on Dynamite or Collision. As such, the former House Of Black member has been doing dates in other places, like World Series Wrestling in Australia. However, he’s now no longer advertised for some upcoming appearances there, leading to many wonder what’s truly next.
Over on their Instagram, WSW revealed that, due to scheduling conflicts, Buddy would be canceling his upcoming booking.
“We have just learnt, that due to scheduling conflicts, Buddy Matthews will no longer be appearing on the WSW MEGAMANIA Tour. We’re really disappointed that Buddy won’t be joining us this time around, but we completely understand that schedules can change. We hope to welcome Buddy Matthews back to World Series Wrestling on a future tour! Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

Typically, when a wrestler has to cancel indie dates like this, it has to do with them appearing at a bigger promotion. Matthews’ possible return to AEW would further solidify the depth and quality of the men’s roster, which continues to grow via new arrivals like Ilja Dragunov. For now, though, whether his comeback is on the horizon remains to be seen.
As mentioned, Matthews’ last match for the company came at Grand Slam Australia in 2025, battling Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship. Naturally, a lot has changed in the promotion since his last appearance, and, whenever the time comes for his return, many will be interested to see how he interacts with former stablemate Brody King given his tag and trios successful over the last year.
