WWE Crown Jewel Crew Reportedly Being Offered Hazard Pay To Make Riyadh Trip

With WWE Crown Jewel just days away, the company have reportedly offered its crew hazard pay.
In just two days, WWE will host the latest Crown Jewel event from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Yet, in the buildup to the event, controversy has sprouted in many different forms, including the company’s commitment to travelling to the area despite the recent attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia. Now, it seems WWE are recognising the potential danger of the situation in how staff are being compensated for the trip.
According to an update from WrestleVotes Radio via Fightful Select, WWE is giving hazard pay for the crew who go to Crown Jewel this weekend, though many have already turned it down.
“With WWE’s trip to Saudi Arabia coming up this weekend, WrestleVotes on Fightful Select learned directly from a source that the company is offering crew members additional hazard pay for making the trip to Riyadh. Traditionally, that type of incentive has not been offered for standard crew responsibilities. We’re told that several crew members have opted out of making the trip, regardless of the additional compensation. WrestleVotes spoke to two people at WWE who work for the company, and it was relayed that the pay offer was $3,000. Hazard pay is additional pay for performing hazardous duty or work involving physical hardship. Work duty that causes extreme physical discomfort and distress which is not adequately alleviated by protective devices is deemed to impose a physical hardship.”

Earlier this week, TKO president Mark Sharpiro said the risk of the show being cancelled was extremely minimal, stating the promotion would still be paid by partners in Saudi Arabia even if any event had to be moved. Despite all the speculation, though, WWE are all set to head to Riyadh this weekend for Crown Jewel.
At present, only four matches are set for the event, including the two champion vs. champion matches, and a Last Man Standing clash as Randy Orton takes on Cody Rhodes. As revealed last week, though, the original lineup for the show had one extra addition to the cars and an alteration to The Vision’s scheduled match. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Crown Jewel as soon as we hear more.
