This past Sunday, AEW held their first ever joint pay-per view event with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Forbidden Door, with reviews of the show being resoundingly positive following an excellent night of pro-wrestling.
The card, however, only featured one women’s wrestling match, with that being Thunder Rosa’s successful defence of her AEW Women’s Championship against Toni Storm. This came as a result of NJPW solely utilising male talent, although their parent company Bushiroad do also own World Wonder Ring Stardom, with the Joshi promotion acting as a sister promotion to its male counterpart.
This led many to question throughout the build-up to Forbidden Door whether Stardom would be involved in some capacity, although the timing of the show itself ultimately prevented this from being a possibility, as Stardom presented their Fight in the Top PPV earlier on the same day.
Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on the potential for AEW and Stardom to work together in the future, noting that whilst AEW never contacted Stardom directly in the build-up to Forbidden Door, Stardom certainly have eyes on bringing in foreign talent as the year progresses.
“While it is possible that AEW may have asked Bushiroad about visas, nobody from AEW had contacted Stardom, but Stardom would like to bring foreign talent over this year if they could,”

We certainly hope that AEW and Stardom eventually develop a working relationship similar to the one seen between AEW and New Japan, with a number of potential dream matches presenting themselves as possible should an agreement be reached.
