El Hijo Del Vikingo is one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the world. He has held the AAA Mega Championship for over 432 days, having won the gold in December of 2021, and many have been wanting the star to expand his horizons for some time.
The 25-year-old has dreamed of wrestling some of the best from across the world with visa issues often being the biggest roadblock in creating fans’ dream matches. However, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has written that AAA are looking into the possibility of having either Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi come in to challenge Vikingo at TripleMania. Ibushi is currently a free agent, but Meltzer acknowledges that getting Omega will be easier said than done given the circumstances around FTR’s last visit to the company.
“The hope is to have either Kenny Omega or Kota Ibushi come in to challenge El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega title at one of the TripleMania shows. Getting Omega is tricky because it has to come through AEW and there are issues there because of how the Dragon Lee & Dralistico win over FTR in Acapulco in December went down, with FTR losing and then immediately in the ring Dragon Lee saying he had signed with WWE.”– Dave Meltzer
Having FTR travel to AAA to drop the belts to Dragon Lee and Dralistico, with Lee announcing his departure to WWE after the match, may have left a sour taste in AEW’s mouth. Of course, it goes without saying that prospect of either Omega or Ibushi facing off with Vikingo would surely be a mouthwatering prospect for any wrestling fan, so many will hope that the two companies can come to an agreement to allow Omega and Vikingo to share the ring.
As always, we will update you on the future of Vikingo and TripleMania as soon as we hear more.
