Ace Austin Reportedly Got Praise From Within AEW Over Recent Collision Match

Ace Austin is reportedly impressing in AEW.

Having debuted last August, Ace Austin has already made an impression on many viewers, having had high-quality matches with the likes of Ricochet, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, Okada, and more. Last Saturday, he was in the first match of the Continental Challenge Cup, where the high-flying member of the Bang Bang Gang faced Claudio Castagnoli, and it now seems his performance in that match has captured the attention of people backstage:

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it’s believed AEW higher-ups were impressed with how the match went.

“I think Ace Austin, as far as Ace Austin’s standing, I think he did himself a world of favors with this performance because people are talking about him, including in the company, being very impressed by him. I don’t know that it’s gonna get him a bunch of wins, but I do think it will get him some television time and, you know, being thought of as, ‘Hey, we got a TV match for Mike Bailey or whatever, and we need a win, and hey, we know Ace Austin, he can do that job great.’”

Many online have pointed out that while Ace Austin has been impressing many, his win record isn’t the greatest in singles competition. In terms of big matches, he’s currently 1-9. However, by giving his all in these matches, like the one with Claudio Castagnoli, he’s proving his worth in other ways, and thus, should the time come when AEW want to put more of a focus on him, the company will know what he can do.

It’s worth noting that many big-name members of the AEW locker room have had similar paths to the top, or to a title. Swerve Strickland famously proved himself to Tony Khan during matches he lost, including one with Hiroshi Tanahashi, and that let Khan know he could trust him to do more. If Austin earns the founder’s trust in full, he might be in line for a more prominent role sooner rather than later. For now, though, whether that happens remains to be seen.
