Billy Gunn Calls Triple H’s Hall Of Fame Insult About AEW A “Dick Move”

Billy Gunn

Billy Gunn discusses the insult Triple H gave AEW in 2019 during the D-X Hall of Fame ceremony.

All Elite Wrestling was born in 2019, and many early moves were made to try to shore up the roster both in front of and behind the camera. One such hiring was bringing in Billy Gunn as a coach for the talent. In April 2019, Billy Gunn was part of the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony for DX, where, during their acceptance speech, HHH noted that Vince McMahon, would buy Gunn’s new “pissant” company and fire him again.

In a recent chat with Inside The Ropes, Billy Gunn discussed thinking Triple H would have something to say about AEW, calling it a “dick move”.

“I knew it was coming. I kind of knew they were gonna do something AEW because it was hot at the time, and I was there… I didn’t know what they were gonna do, but I knew they were gonna do something. I also knew that if they were, that Hunter was gonna have something to say about it. Once I set myself up to let all that, I just let it go. The only one that got hurt out of that whole deal was him. I don’t want to say it, but it was just a dick move. It was kind of trying to save face, and you didn’t need to because it’s gonna happen. It’s the wrestling business. It’s what we do. They like to stir up sh*t. It’s like an unwritten thing in a book. ‘If another guy is in another company, we have to say something and do something.’ They [the fans] started chanting it, and you get a response from the guy leading the company.”

At the time, AEW’s first-ever pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, was around a month away, featuring the debut of Jon Moxley, who had been with WWE previously. To that point, in 2019, the wrestling world wasn’t sure what to expect from the new company, so “The Game” likely felt more comfortable referencing it then than he would today.

In truth, Gunn has been a key of AEW on camera and behind it, including being one-third of the World Trios Championships with The Acclaimed. Plus, his legacy lives on as his sons, Colten and Austin Gunn, are former World Tag Team Champions in their own right.
