Billy Ken Kid, one of Japan’s most prolific independent pro wrestlers who’s mostly made his name as a member of the Osaka Pro Wrestling roster since the 2000s, successfully won a seat on the city council of Kawanashi after an election!

According to the city’s website, BKK ran under his in-ring name as an independent candidate. He earned 4,040 votes, giving him more than the second place finisher by nearly 1,000 votes.

The 52-year-old now joins an ever growing list of wrestlers in Japan who’ve curtailed their success in the public sector into one of public service. Billy Ken Kid joins the likes of Atsushi Onita, The Great Sasuke, Hiroshi Hase, and Antonio Inoki himself on this impressive list. According to Tokyo Sports, he is the sixth masked wrestler to receive this distinction.

Billy Ken Kid began his pro wrestling career back in 1997 after training in Mexico under UWA mainstay Black Power. After spending his first few years in Mexico, he would go home to Japan to wrestle first for Pro Wrestling KAGEKI and later his local Osaka Pro, where he would quickly become a big star.

Over his long career, the star has held the Osaka Pro Championship a record five times, the Osaka Tag Team Championships six times, won the Tennōzan in 2008 and 2009, and the Osaka Tag Festival in 2003 and 2007. In all, BKK has one of the most legendary résumés in the history of Osaka Pro.
