We could be set to see more blood on WWE TV moving forward, but they’re aren’t planning on overdoing it.

This past Monday’s episode of RAW saw The Rock savagely attack Cody Rhodes backstage, with the violence spilling out into a rainy Chicago parking lot. During the beat down, ‘The Final Boss’ delivered on his promise from earlier in the night by making Rhodes bleed in a rare case of blading that had previously been banned on WWE television. The segment also saw The Rock drop an F-bomb that was bleeped out, along with several other expletives.

Regarding the use of expletives and Rhodes blading, Dave Meltzer revealed in today’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that under the new regime, WWE plan to use blood rarely when considered appropriate, with it also being added that The Rock can essentially use blood in his angles whenever he wants.

“As far as what it all means, we were told that Dwayne Johnson as always will get to do pretty much what he wants. The further he pushes, it’s likely the further at least some of the top stars can with language. With blood, the key is that this is no longer Vince McMahon’s company. We were told that going forward it will be used very rarely. There are no plans to turn it into AEW where it’s used more liberally. But if Johnson wants it in his angle, he’s like Lesnar in the Vince administration, and has more power than Lesnar had then, and he’s going to be able to do what he wants in his angles and matches.”

The main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia will see The Rock team up with Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, with the bout having major implications for Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship defence against Rhodes in the main event of the following night.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the use of blood on WWE television moving forward as soon as we hear more.
