Gunther is in the midst of one of the most highly regarded Intercontinental Championship reigns of all time. The Austrian has held the accolade since June 10, 2022, which makes it 298 days and counting as the champion. Two days ago at WrestleMania, he was able to overcome both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre and many are wondering what’s next for The Ring General.

One rumoured showdown for WrestleMania was Gunther facing off with Brock Lesnar, a match which created a lot of buzz among the fans. The two ended up having a bit of a confrontation during the Royal Rumble match but a singles match between the pair never came to be.

Speaking with Daniel Cormier, The Beast has confirmed that the match with Gunther was pitched to him and that he’s interested in eventually putting on the spectacle.

“I do. I don’t really care… it was just proposed, and I don’t know if I don’t make the calls around here. It’s just one of those things. When this was proposed to me, I liked it because I like the challenge, and I like the matchup.”

As aforementioned, Gunther currently holds the Intercontinental Championship meaning that if he did face Brock Lesnar it would play host to the IC title. Many may be fearful that Lesnar would take the honour away from Gunther but The Beast went on to state that it’s not something he feels he needs at this point in his career.

“We all want to be a champion, but I don’t think at this point in my career that I really need it. I would like another opportunity at it. If things worked out that way, yeah. But things are crazy in this business,”

Many fans remain hopeful that Gunther will eventually get his chance to wrestle Brock Lesnar. Though, with Lesnar’s heel turn on last night’s Raw, a match between the two seems unlikely.

As always, we’ll aim to update you on both Brock Lesnar and Gunther as well as a potential match between the two as we hear more.
