Darby Allin: There’s No Room For An Off Night, Every Week To Me Is A Pay-Per-View
Darby Allin doesn’t believe in phoning it in.
Since his arrival in AEW in 2019, fans have known that Darby Allin doesn’t do anything half-baked. No matter the foe, and no matter the match, the star doesn’t slow down, and viewers have become conditioned to expect daring stunts virtually every time he steps through the curtain. Now, Allin has discussed his mentality in the ring.
In a chat with Good Karma Wrestling, he discussed his view that there’s no room for off nights in wrestling.,
“There’s no room to have an off night. I remember watching the show before I went on in Mexico and I was like, ‘Wow, these matches are insane. This is insane.’ There’s no such thing as an off night because if you take an off night, people are gonna see through it. Most importantly, the guys in the back are gonna see through it. They’re like, ‘Ah, here he is phoning it in.’ No. We don’t have time for that. AEW is the biggest blessing ever, so let’s treat it with the respect it deserves. So everybody’s like, ‘You gotta take it easy. It’s Collision or it’s Dynamite. You gotta take it easy. Wait for the pay-per-view.’ No. Every week to me is the pay-per-view.”

That mindset personifies Darby Allin’s time as AEW World Champion earlier this year. Winning the title on April 15, the was champion for just 39 days. In that time, though, he completed seven successful defences before losing the gold back to MJF at Double Or Nothing, reflecting his message of not wanting to slow down regardless of what show he’s on.
Plus, since losing the world title, Allin went on to pick up his third TNT Championship, the joint most of any wrestler in company history, further showing his determination to never rest on his laurels.
