Dax Harwood: Cope And Cage’s Generation Of Tag Teams Didn’t Have The Depth FTR’s Does

Dax Harwood argues this generation of tag team wrestling has the most depth.
Being two of the best tag teams of their respective eras. FTR and Cage and Cope have a stunning 18 major tag team championships between them. Both regularly come up in conversations about the greatest teams of all time, although Dax Harwood has now suggested FTR are up against a more stacked generation than those competing when Cage and Cope were coming up in the industry.
Speaking with Raj Prashad, Dax Harwood noted that depth like The New Day, The Young Bucks, The Usos are more sets this generation of teams apart from Cage and Cope’s era.
“Well, I think starting off what separates us from Adam Copeland and Christian Cage is, yes, they may be the greatest tag-team of their generation, but if we’re being honest, and, we’re putting all ego aside, they had two other mediocre tag-teams to compare themselves to: The Hardy Boys and the Dudley Boyz. Their generation didn’t have the depth of talent that FTR does. I mean, you think about it, we will go down as the greatest tag-team of this generation, and we’ve had to compete with American Alpha, the DIYs, the New Days, the Usos, the Young Bucks. You keep the lineage going of tag-team wrestling, the Briscoes, the Motor City Machine Guns. Those are the teams that we’ve had to compete with, and we still come out on top, and we still are at the top of the list when people talk about greatest tag-teams of the generation.”

FTR first met Cage and Cope in the ring at All Out last September. That night, Adam Copeland pinned Cash Wheeler to secure the win, but FTR levelled the score by retaining the AEW World Tag Team Championships against their rivals last month at Dynasty. Now, the teams are less than 24 hours away from completing the trilogy.
At tonight’s Double Or Nothing pay-per-view, FTR will once again put the AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against Christian Cage and Adam Copeland. However, if Cage and Cope lose, they’ll be unable to team together again in future, potentially bringing their near three decades as a duo to a close.
Having signed with AEW back in 2023, Adam Copeland recently revealed he isn’t sure when his contract is up because of time added on due to injuries and outside projects. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates as soon as we hear more.
