Anthony Bowens: Wrestling At MSG Is A Career Goal, AEW Would Sell It Out

Anthony Bowens wants to see AEW run MSG.

Earlier this week, while talking to Scott Fishman of TV Insider, MJF revealed that one of his biggest remaining goals is to wrestle at Madison Square Garden. The former AEW World Champion wants to see the company hold a major show at ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’, and it now appears he isn’t the only one on the roster crossing their fingers for the opportunity to compete at MSG.

In a new interview with PWInsider, Anthony Bowens said wrestling at Madison Square Garden is a career goal of his, noting he thinks AEW would sell it out.

“That’s one of my career goals. I’m pretty sure I heard MJF say the same thing. That’s one of the career goals, is to wrestle there. So hopefully one day we can make that happen. People are delusional if they think we wouldn’t sell [MSG] out. We got 14,000 over in Queens. They said the same thing about Wembley, that we wouldn’t put 80,000 in there, and we sold the place. We would do it.”

While AEW are yet to run the famous venue, many fans will remember the time New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor came together to hold ‘G1 Supercard’ at Madison Square Garden in April 2019. However, given WWE’s connections to MSG, it’s believed the company made attempts to get the venue to pull out of their agreement with NJPW and ROH, something they were almost able to do.

Thanks to the G1 Supercard, AEW talent like Will Ospreay, Jay White, Brody King, Juice Robinson, and Mark Briscoe all have experience wrestling at MSG. However, while Bowens and MJF maintain their desire to wrestle at Madison Square Garden, whether Tony Khan could navigate an agreement with Madison Square Garden given WWE’s ties remains to be seen.
