AEW’s Skye Blue has reflected on her 2024 ankle injury.

On the July 20, 2024, edition of Collision, Skye Blue unfortunately suffered a broken ankle in a match with Hikaru Shida. The injury occurred as Skye attempted to catch her opponent off the top rope, with the match being called off after less than four minutes. Now, the 26-year-old has opened up about being rocked by the prospect of surgery, and how she wondered if she’d even be able to return to the ring.

Speaking with Branson Quirke of TMZ, Skye looked back on what went through her mind after she was told she needed surgery.

“It definitely flickered across my brain because I had never had surgery. I had never had anything like that. I had broken bones, but you just throw a cast on it, or you just tape it and pretend it didn’t happen. So when I went to the surgeon and they did all scans, he was like, ‘Okay, so surgery is this day.’ And I was like, ‘The what?’ I was dumbfounded. I was like, ‘No, I don’t want that.’ And he was like, ‘You don’t have a choice.’ My ankle was literally detached from my leg. My surgeon’s exact words, it was really funny. He was like, ’It looks like you were in a car crash.’ Those few days after surgery where you can’t move, I was just laying flat on a couch trying not to move my leg. I was like, ‘This is insane. How am I gonna go back to flipping and running and twisting and turning, and all the crazy things that we have to put our bodies through?’ So It definitely flickered across my brain, then the subconscious thoughts of, ‘Am I going to be the same? Am I going to have to change things? Am I going to be worse when I come back? Are people going to not think of me the same because I have to move differently if I have to change things?’”

After being sidelined for 10 months, Skye made her return on May 14 last year. As part of the ‘Beach Break’ edition of Dynamite, she took in a four-way eliminator match for the AEW Women’s World Championship which also featured Mina Shirakawa, AZM, and Toni Storm.

Around two months after her return, Blue, along with her regular tag team partner Julia Hart, aligned with Thekla to form the Triangle of Madness. Together, they’ve become a key part of the company’s women’s division, with the Sisters of Sin hoping to become the Women’s World Tag Team Champions in future.
