CMLL has announced four matches for its upcoming 93rd Aniversario show, which will take place on September 18 at the legendary Arena México. The matches were revealed during CMLL’s weekly talk show, CMLL Informa.

AEW National Champion Andrade El Idolo will take on his former Super Sky Team teammate and longtime rival Volador Jr. when he returns to Arena México. The man formerly known as La Sombra wrestled for CMLL from 2006 to 2015 before joining WWE in 2016. Years later, Andrade returned to the “Cathedral of Lucha Libre” for a couple of weeks in December 2023, where he wrestled and lost his lone singles match against Volador Jr.

Elsewhere on the card, AEW’s Komander will challenge Titán for the CMLL World Welterweight Championship in a highly anticipated rematch of their fantastic encounter back in January. By September 18, Titán’s reign with the championship will reach 2,477 days, and while titles don’t necessarily carry the same weight in CMLL, or lucha libre as a whole, that number is still staggering. It would be almost incomprehensible to see anyone else hold the championship at this point, but this could be the perfect opportunity for CMLL to make a change.

Another AEW wrestler, Bandido, will also be on the card as he takes on Soberano Jr. The two have developed a budding rivalry throughout the year, having crossed paths in several tag team matches, but this will be their first singles encounter. They have already shown incredible chemistry together, so expectations should be high for this one.

Finally, CMLL announced a special four-way Parejas Increíbles Apuestas match. The bout will feature four makeshift tag teams competing in an elimination-style match. Once only one team remains, its two members will face off in an Apuestas match, one of the biggest stipulation matches in lucha libre. The loser of that singles contest will be forced to either unmask or have his head shaved.

The four teams scheduled to take part in the match are Bárbaro Cavernario and Dragon Rojo Jr., Star Jr. and Zandokan Jr., Templario and Último Guerrero, and Averno and Místico.

There are two particularly intriguing wrinkles to this match, with Averno and Místico being bitter rivals, making their forced partnership fascinating to watch. Meanwhile, Zandokan Jr. defeated his own partner, Star Jr., in an Apuestas match last spring, adding another layer of intrigue to their team.

AEW’s Bandido recently reflected on what it means to compete inside Arena México as a luchador, describing the legendary venue as a major achievement for any wrestler. You can read more about that here.
