In recent years, former multi-time world champion John Cena has made increasingly fewer appearances for WWE due to him prioritising his acting career with projects such as “Peacemaker”, “The Independent”, and “Bumblebee” amongst others. Last year saw the leader of the Cenation embark on his “Summer of Cena” tour, culminating in his loss at SummerSlam to the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, whereas this year Cena has appeared for the company only once as a part of the 20th anniversary edition of Raw in July.

According to a new exclusive report from Variety, Cena may be set to make his second WWE appearance of the year, as there are currently plans for him to feature on the final episode of Smackdown in 2022.

“Variety has learned exclusively that the iconic professional wrestler and actor is set to appear on the final “SmackDown Live” of the year on Dec. 30, which will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, more announcements are planned for the episode in the coming weeks.”

As of writing, it is currently unclear as to what Cena will be doing on the show itself, although there have been an increase in the number of rumours suggestion that he may compete at next year’s Wrestlemania in recent weeks, and thus the company may look to begin planting the seeds for the future.

As alwasy, we’ll aim to provide any updates on John Cena’s possible return to WWE as soon as we hear more. The likes of Austin Theory, Gunther, and even Logan Paul have all been rumoured to be in contention to face Cena at Wrestlemania 39 next year, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see who else is announced for the blue brands final outing of the year.
