This Sunday is the first AEW x NJPW event. The ‘Forbidden Door’ pay-per-view will feature a collection of dream matches between the two companies which were once thought impossible. Though, the most notable absentee from the show may be Kenny Omega.

He was a top star in both of the companies so it would only make sense for the Canadian to feature on the show if it wasn’t for his current injury. He took some time off after losing the AEW World Championship to Hangman Page at ‘Full Gear’ in late 2021 and it doesn’t seem like Omega will be back soon.

Fans were disappointed when they realised the event would take place without Kenny and, while speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, it seems as if Omega shares a feeling of disappointment. This comes despite him being satisfied that a collaboration between the companies is finally happening.

“We always just wanted to make wrestling a friendly place for everyone, perhaps not all of us, but that was always one of the things that were most important to me. I wanted to see a world where we were working friendly with New Japan and I was hoping that that was something that would happen from day one, and here we are.

-Kenny Omega.

“We’re working with New Japan, we’re working with DDT, we’re working with Tokyo Joshi, we’re working with AAA, we’re working with Ring of Honor, now that Tony has purchased Ring of Honor. We’re working with all of these entities and promotions who may not even want to work with each other, yet we are creating sort of this forum for everyone to wrestle and work peacefully and I think it’s really cool and even though I can’t physically take part in it I’m still happy and I’m still extremely satisfied that we could get to this point because this was always what we wanted to do with AEW as an idea for a company.”

-Kenny Omega.

It’s unclear when Omega will be back on our screens but he will be keeping an eye on Forbidden Door this Sunday with a smile on his face.
