Kenny Omega: Yota Tsuji Is Scared Of Failing On Wrestling’s Biggest Stages, He Has Clear Weaknesses

Kenny Omega isn’t holding back on the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

The wrestling world was turned on its head the other day when numerous AEW stars appeared at NJPW’s King of Pro Wrestling Event to set up some potential big-time matches for Wrestle Kingdom 21. One such person was Kenny Omega, who set up a three-way match with both Yota Tsuji and Boltin Oleg for next month’s Power Struggle Event, with the stipulation that, if he wins, Omega will earn a future shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Ahead of next month’s match, the AEW star has had scathing criticism of the current champion.

In a chat with Tokyo Sports, “The Cleaner” given his view that Tsuji has clear weaknesses.

“In my day, [Kazuchika] Okada was so dominant that the only way to win the belt was to become an incredibly strong all-around wrestler. But the current IWGP Champion has weaknesses that are all too obvious. Tsuji is very strong in certain areas, but he lacks experience. To me, it looks like he’s scared of failing on the world stage, and that’s why he’s avoiding my challenge. The fact that he can’t honestly admit that is another one of his weaknesses. Right now, he’s just imitating the world’s top wrestlers.”

During the buildup to All In: London, a strong portion of longtime fans were excited to see elements of “The Cleaner” seep through as Omega was positioned in slightly more of a heel role heading into his defence against Will Ospreay. So, many will be pleased to see him return to New Japan Pro Wrestling to revel in the role of an outsider once again before he heads back to AEW on a more regular basis.

Elsewhere on the recent King Of Pro Wrestling show, tensions escalated further between Callum Newman and Will Ospreay. However, to viewers surprise, the pair were set up with a major tag team title match for next month’s Power Struggle. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kenny Omega’s return to NJPW as soon as we hear more.
