A councillor for Kilkenny has said Ireland could bid for WrestleMania.

Next year, WWE will take WrestleMania outside North America for the first time in history by having it emanate from Saudi Arabia. While this is the next step in the company’s partnership with the country, the move has opened up the possibility of the ‘Show Of Shows’ travelling to other parts of the world. Now, a surprising European nation has emerged as a potential candidate to host WrestleMania.

Speaking with the Irish Daily Mirror, Kilkenny councilor Maurice Shortall has claimed Ireland is in a position to make a competitive bid for WrestleMania.

As a globally recognised event with the capacity to attract tens of thousands of international visitors and generate substantial international media exposure, WrestleMania presents a significant opportunity for Ireland to strengthen its position as a leading destination for major event tourism. The wider regional benefit to counties such as Kilkenny would be substantial, with strong potential for tourism spillover, increased domestic travel, and enhanced international visibility for Ireland’s secondary tourism destinations. Ireland is well placed to present a credible and competitive bid for WrestleMania, given our strong international tourism brand, proven track record in hosting major events, and global reputation as a welcoming destination.”

A WrestleMania in Europe is something many fans have wanted for a long time, although most assumed that London would be the primary choice to host the show if WWE ventured overseas. In fact, at Money in the Bank 2023, John Cena even teased the event coming to England’s capital, although it now seems Ireland feel more prepared to bid for the spectacle.

Should Ireland place a successful bid, WWE certainly aren’t short of Irish talent to showcase. Among the roster, the likes of Becky Lynch, Sheamus, Lyra Valkyria, and Finn Bálor could all be presented as major focuses at a WrestleMania in their home country.
