LA Knight Says He And AJ Styles Got Calls From WWE After WrestleMania 40 Brawl

LA Knight discusses his unplanned scuffle with
Prior to their match at WrestleMania 40, LA Knight and AJ Styles made headlines by getting into a brawl at a press event. However, while they began with the intention of building hype for their match, the scuffle that unfolded was unplanned, happening organically as both men reacted as they thought their characters should in the lead up to their clash at the ‘Show Of Shows’. Now, Knight has discussed the altercation and WWE’s reaction to their fight.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, LA Knight recalled thinking security would jump in once he started brawling with Styles, noting both received calls from WWE afterwards.
“Whoever I was talking to, while I was doing that, AJ is over here behind me. I’d given looks, and he’d referenced me, and I’d looked over there, and stuff. But at some point AJ tossed a stool in my direction, and at that point all I’m thinking is again the depth of the story we had told up to now. I’m like, there’s no way I wouldn’t react if he throws his stool at me. What am I going to do? I’m going to fight him. So I go over and just start fighting him, and I’m thinking surely security is going to come and break this up real quick, and it just went on and on. We’re down there work-shooting, and he’s knocking me away, because we got to make it look good now, because we’re like in the people. I’m like, where the f*ck is security? What is taking so long? — In my head, I’m like, I have gone to his house to fight him. He throws a stool at me from five feet away. What am I going to do? Just shrug it off? No. So I went over there, thinking security is going to take care of it. They didn’t. I mean they did finally, but yeah, it took a minute, and so I hit that, he slammed the sh*t out of me, and he ended up with a bloody nose, so after that we both got a phone call, though, like, what are you guys doing, you can’t do that, and it was like, hey, I’m trying to keep it alive, I’m trying.”

As it happened, LA Knight would secure the win over AJ Styles at WrestleMania 40. However, ‘The Phenomenal One’ would even the score when the pair met in the finals of a tournament to determine the number one contender to the Undisputed WWE Championship, earning the right to face Cody Rhodes at Backlash 2024.
Styles, of course, is now retired having put his career on the line against GUNTHER at the Royal Rumble earlier this year. As for Knight, ‘The Megastar’ has been a thorn in The Vision’s side for the last few months.
Knight came into WWE around five years ago off the back of his time as Eli Drake as TNA and NWA. Elsewhere in the interview, the star reveals the company almost let him keep the name when debuting in NXT, also discussing a different name he was pitched. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on LA Knight as soon as we hear more.
