Maya World Comments On Beloved Mercedes Moné Match, Future Goals With Hyan
Maya World is looking at her future and her past at the same time.
The “It Girl” of All Elite Wrestling had a huge night at AEW Redemption, where she shocked the world and beat Hikaru Shida to win the TBS Championship. It’s been quite a journey for her over the last year, especially given she was first brought onto AEW as an extra, working her way into bigger and better matches. shocking the world in June by making it to the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, where she fought Mercedes Moné in a universally beloved match.
At the AEW Redemption Media Scrum, she was asked whether she had rewatched her match with Moné, adding a line which joked about Dave Meltzer not yet giving a rating for their Owen Hart Final.
“I mean, somebody has to. Yeah, many many times. I tried not to at first. I wanted to stay in the moment. I had a few things happen, so I wanted to remember the moment for what it was, which was just a great match, a great feeling afterwards. But I definitely have re-watched it a lot of times. Now I have, at least.”

After her recent singles success, Maya was also asked about her AEW future, including whether she’ll still team with Hyan.
“I love tag wrestling. Honestly, I would never imagine I’d be signed as a tag wrestler, but me and her love it so much. We’re always picking each other’s brains on like, ‘Did you watch this?’ We send each other matches to watch, study. I love tag wrestling, so definitely want to stay with my girl, Hyan.”

Maya then discussed her AEW career thus far, thanking both Tony Khan for the opportunities and Athena for helping her be ready for all that’s happened in the ring and out. With her now holding the TBS Championship, the sky is the limit for Maya World, and many will be curious who she’ll defend the belt against, especially as we get closer to All In: London next month.
Last night saw two new champions crowned in the women’s division, with the other title change being when Willow Nightingale captured the AEW Women’s World Championship.
