Mick Foley has discussed why it’s a positive for Cody Rhodes to face Brock Lesnar prior to winning the WWE’s top prize.

The majority of WWE fans were shocked when Roman Reigns retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39. Many still believe that The American Nightmare will one day soon claim one of the company’s top titles and ‘finish the story’, though Rhodes’ is currently locked into a feud with Brock Lesnar which has taken him away from focusing on the illustrious gold.

The pair currently have one win each in their series of matches with Rhodes coming out victorious at Backlash while Lesnar evened up the score in Saudi Arabia. It appears as if the two stars are set to complete their trilogy in the coming months, with Summerslam the reported destination for their next encounter.

On the latest episode of his Foley is Pod series, Mick Foley has commented on Rhodes’ journey following his ‘Mania loss, claiming that the current rivalry with Lesnar is giving Cody everything he needs to reach the mountaintop down the line.

“I think it’s important that the title not go to Cody because I think what Cody is going through in this series Brock Lesnar is giving him the credential, so that when he does — and I think there will definitely be a moment where he becomes that guy, everyone will feel like he deserved it,”

When it comes to the third match between Lesnar and Rhodes, it was recently reported that a special stipulation is being discussed for the bout with a bullrope match the current front runner.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on Cody Rhodes and his future plans as we hear more.
