MJF discusses the pain from his current injury.

On June 3, MJF put the AEW World Championship on the line for the first time since reclaiming the title from Darby Allin at Double or Nothing. However, following his successful defence against Rush, Beyond Wrestling revealed that the star had to pull out of a planned appearance due to a hyperextended knee suffered in the match with ‘El Toro Blanco’. Having maintained a busy AEW schedule, MJF has now addressed his injury status.

Appearing on Shut Up And Wrestle, MJF discussed the pain he is experiencing from his knee injury, although he noted that he is still able to wrestle as his knee is structurally sound.

“My knee is f*cked. It’s swollen to sh*t. I’m in a sht ton of f*cking pain. But it’s on me because I’m the f*cking top guy and people are leaning on me to make sure that we’re doing well. So I’ve got to f*cking lace my f*cking boots up and get in that g*ddamn ring. And obviously, a doctor is never going to let me go in there unless structurally I’m okay. So don’t think I’m burying the AEW medical team. I’m in a lot of pain, there’s swelling, but structurally, I’m good.

Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw MJF team with five members of the Don Callis Family to defeat Mark Briscoe and his team as the two sides of Forbidden Door’s showdown came together. Although carrying an injury, the star is a little over a week away from stepping into a steel cage match, with Briscoe aiming to earn a future shot at AEW’s top title.

MJF’s defence against Rush was his most recent AEW World Championship match. However, the 30-year-old is far from short of challengers going forward. With Kevin Knight, Andrade, Kenny Omega, and Will Ospreay all among those waiting to vie for the gold, it appears MJF may find respite hard to come by in the coming weeks.

Shortly after the injury, an update emerged on exactly how MJF got injured in his match with Rush. You can find a refresher on what happened here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on MJF’s injury status as soon as we hear more, and we continue to wish him all the best in his recovery.
