Nigel McGuinness has been released by WWE.

The news was originally broken by PWInsider who reported that the release happened earlier this week.

Former Ring of Honor World Champion Nigel McGuiness, 46, was released by WWE earlier this week.”

-PWInsider.

Nigel McGuinness worked as a commentator for the company for over six years, primarily on the NXT UK brand. He was originally brought in to commentate on WWE’s United Kingdom Tournament events which took place over two nights in January 2017. The Brit was kept on after providing a breath of fresh air to the commentary team and was ever present during the lifespan of NXT’s UK show.

Nigel has had unfortunate luck when it comes to injuries, having to retire after a great career in Ring of Honor among other places. He held the ROH World Championship for 545 days and the Pure Championship for record 350 days. This could open the door for McGuinness to return to the independent scene. He’s a unique voice and adds a lot of insight as a colour commentator.
