Oba Femi vs. Roman Reigns Still Reportedly Pencilled For WrestleMania 43 Despite Femi’s Recent Tease

Oba Femi vs. Roman Reigns reportedly isn’t coming before WWE WrestleMania 43.

After this past weekend’s Money in the Bank, Oba Femi said there was no more running for Roman Reigns, suggesting he was gunning for the World Heavyweight Championship in the immediate future. This took many fans by surprise, particularly as the prevailing belief among reports is that WWE are keeping “The OTC” vs. “The Ruler” in their pocket until WrestleMania 43. Still, despite Femi’s recent tease, it seems WWE’s plans haven’t shifted.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified Oba Femi vs. Roman Reigns isn’t in WWE’s immediate plans, despite Femi’s comments just days ago.

“At the post-show, Oba did his interview talking about Roman Reigns and made it sound like it was imminent and not at WrestleMania. So what I was told is that he was reacting to the crowd and thought that that’s what he should do because the crowd was really into it. But the match is not scheduled for Survivor Series. Obviously, Roman’s gonna be in the 10-man WarGames. The plan is WrestleMania. But he just got excited because the fans all wanted it and he had to respond. And he did, but by responding, he said, ‘I want that title.’ It makes everyone think, oh, he’s gonna get the title shot in the next pay-per-view cycle, which obviously he is not.”

The discussion of when Oba Femi will feature in a World Heavyweight Championship match has been raging on since he won the King Of The Ring at the end of June. Since 2024, the tournament has been used to propel its winner towards a world championship match at SummerSlam, so many were taken aback when Femi turned down the shot at Reigns to instead take on Brock Lesnar one more time.

As such, many fans have been waiting for Oba to inevitably step into the World Heavyweight Championship picture, and “The Ruler” has been keen to not let viewers forget his eventual destination, but it seems we’ll have to wait a little while longer before he truly looks to capture the top gold.
