It’s fair to say that Kenny Omega is a dream match machine. The 39-year-old Winnipeg native is among the greatest of all time and has a collection of awe-inspiring clashes under his belt, including a four-match rivalry with Kazuchika Okada which stunned the world.
Due to his obvious quality, many AEW stars will have their eye on a match with Omega, believing that he is the benchmark for measuring up in AEW. One such star is Paul Wight, who, while speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, confirmed his interest in stepping into the ring with The Cleaner, being sure to emphasise his own admiration of Omega and his ability.
“I want to get in the ring with Kenny Omega. I want that real bad. Kenny is an incredible talent to watch compete. He has a way of enhancing talent, and he pushes talent to another extreme. I’m always looking for someone to tell a believable story with, whether I am a babyface or a heel. The way he sells, the way he puts his heart and soul into every match, so a match between us could be very believable. As much as I like his wrestling, the guy in the back is even more impressive. He’s humble, hard working and works hurt. Looking at his aggressiveness and his heart, I think we could have one hell of a match,”
-Paul Wight.
However, at this exact moment, a match between Wight and Omega is impossible as the former WWE star is still nursing a knee injury. Wight did go on to state that he’s eager to get back in an AEW ring following successful rehab and recovery, however, and thus a potential clash between the pair could still be on the cards later down the line.
“For me, it’s all about rehab and getting stronger, and then I can get back in the ring and play with these AEW kids. There are a couple that have caught my eye.”
-Paul Wight.
Currently, Omega is gearing up towards a clash with the current AAA Mega Champion El Hijo Del Vikingo this Wednesday on Dynamite, a bout that many fans have considered a “dream match” for quite some time, whilst Wight remains absent from in-ring action due to injury.
As always, we’ll aim to update you on both Kenny Omega and Paul Wight as well as a potential clash between the two as soon as we hear more.
