Penta believes the pathway to WWE for Mexican talent is better than ever.

On April 19, 2025, during the WrestleMania 41 Countdown Show in Las Vegas, WWE announced its acquisition of Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA as part of a joint venture with Fillip, with the deal officially closing on August 1.

Speaking to The Dallas Morning News, WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta was asked for his thoughts on how AAA and WWE have worked together thus far. In response, Penta said the partnership makes it easier for Mexican talent to make their way to WWE.

“I think it’s a good deal between AAA and WWE because now everyone in Mexico, all luchadores in Mexico, has a big opportunity (to) come to WWE. So now, it’s more easy because now it is a bridge between both companies, you know? For example, for me, it was like 20 years, hard work every single day to come to WWE — now, it’s more easy for others because the times change. But the more important thing is everyone there is perfect, everyone there is like different than years ago. I think it’s a good change for the business right now.”

Tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW will see Dragon Lee, Chad Gable, Joe Hendry, Je’Von Evans, Dominik Mysterio, Ethan Page, and Rusev compete in a gauntlet match to determine Penta’s challenger for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

Alongside his pursuit of recapturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Dominik Mysterio currently reigns as AAA Mega Champion and shockingly came to the aid of El Grande Americano following an attack by Los Perros del Mal during last Saturday’s episode of AAA on FOX. As a result, a tag team match between the two sides has now been set for next week.

Following the success of AAA under WWE’s ownership, AJ Styles recently revealed that he would like to see the company replicate the move in Japan. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Penta, as well as WWE’s ownership of AAA as soon as we hear more.
