Randy Orton isn’t set to return to WWE in the near future, though, it’s believed that he still aims to step back into the ring.
Former multi-time WWE Champion Randy Orton has been absent from WWE for over a year, with his last match being when RK-Bro lost their Raw Tag Team Titles to The Usos in May of 2022. Unfortunately, the 43-year-old has been dealing with a lower back fusion, which required surgery, and questions have repeatedly been asked about his future in the squared circle.
To provide an update on the 14-time World Champion, Fightful Select have stated that a return for Orton isn’t believed to be in the works for the near future, with it said that the star hasn’t been factored into any plans at all in recent times.
“Sources within WWE creative said that as of this past week, Randy Orton had not been factored into WWE creative plans whatsoever.”

While The Apex Predator has resumed gym-based workouts and is progressing well with weights, Fightful clarified that he isn’t yet medically cleared and that he hasn’t started any in-ring training as of yet.
His specific injury is uncommon among wrestlers, so there isn’t much precedent as to how to ease him back into the ring. In fact, doctors have reportedly advised Randy that wrestling in the future may be a bad idea. However, fans may be encouraged to know that Orton himself is motivated to return to the ring and wants to do so should the opportunity present itself.
With SummerSlam coming up this Saturday, some viewers may speculate over whether The Viper will have some involvement in the show. Though, Fightful round off by confirming that a WWE source has heavily downplayed this suggestion.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Randy Orton’s injury status and any plans for a return as we hear more.
