More has come out about CM Punk’s shock return to WWE, including contract length and how it came to be.

Last night, at the AllState Arena in Chicago, over 17,000 people watched on in awe as CM Punk made an emphatic WWE comeback. The shocking return came just under a decade after his infamous departure in 2014, and those in attendance couldn’t believe their eyes as the former two-time WWE Champion made his way onto the stage.

Per PWInsider, details have been revealed with regards to CM Punk’s WWE return. To start, it was reported that the 45-year-old is believed to have signed a deal that is ‘several years in length’ after the two sides had begun communications last week.

“PWInsider.com was told tonight after the show by WWE sources that the deal between the two sides is believed to be “several years in length” and that the company and Punk had their first communications over the last week.

In the weeks leading up to Survivor Series, many went back and forth over whether Punk would show up at the show, but the prevailing belief heading into the event was that the return wouldn’t happen.

To discuss how it came to be, the report said that Punk’s return came together ‘rather quickly’, with the two sides agreeing terms the day of the event.

“We are told that once the ice was broken, the deal came together rather quickly and is being seen by the WWE side as a “new beginning.” Based on what was inferred to PWInsider, the two sides actually came to terms officially at some point today.

Also, PWInsider revealed that we almost had to wait even longer to see CM Punk back in WWE, as the company were considering holding off on executing the return until the 2024 Royal Rumble. However, keeping the comeback a secret was important and they thought that leaving it much longer risked the surprise getting out.

“We are also told there was thought put into holding Punk’s return until the Royal Rumble in Florida this January, but the feeling, based on those we’ve spoken with, is that the longer they waited to unveil Punk, the more likely word would spread within WWE about the plans, leading to a far more likely chance of those plans leaking.

To close, it was noted that Survivor Series being in Chicago meant that Punk could drive to the show in less than 20 minutes and sneak in for a surprise cameo which will go down as one of the best shocks in wrestling history.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on CM Punk’s Survivor Series return as we hear more.
