Roman Reigns vs. The Rock could still happen, but it might not be at WrestleMania after all.

Roman Reigns and The Rock have been long-rumored for a WrestleMania match against each other, with The Rock even saying that it was “locked in” for WrestleMania 39, though it didn’t take place. However, with Cody Rhodes winning the Royal Rumble on Saturday, becoming the first person in nearly three decades to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches, a Reigns-Rhodes rematch at WrestleMania 40 appears to be the direction. However, Reigns vs. The Rock is not entirely off the table, though the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer suggests that it could be after WrestleMania, potentially at a future show in Saudi Arabia.

“As late as last week, Roman Reigns vs. The Rock was not out of play. The Rock wanted it and even said so in media interviews. It was said that he was heavily pushing for it. But at that point, as late as after the Rumble, the plan was for Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and to do Reigns vs. Rock at some point in the future. Saudi Arabia was talked about for that match from a company standpoint.”

Saudi Arabia has been a location for high-profile matches in the past. Reigns previously defended his Undisputed Universal Championship against LA Knight and Logan Paul at Crown Jewel 2023 and 2022, respectively. A match with The Rock would be by far the biggest match to take place at a Saudi Arabia WWE show. There was speculation that the match would take place at Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia next month, but those rumors quickly died down. It remains to be seen if the match will take place, but The Rock recently referred to himself as a “long gamer,” likely implying that if the match were to happen, it would take place at a big event with an extended build behind it.
