Sammy Guevara’s AEW Status Reportedly A Mystery To Many

Sammy Guevara’s status remains unclear within All Elite Wrestling.
Sammy Guevara is one of All Elite Wrestling’s “Day 1” roster members and was eventually established as one of the promotion’s “Four Pillars” alongside Darby Allin, MJF, and Jack Perry. The group was viewed as the foundation of AEW’s future, although while the other three members have remained prominent parts of the company’s programming in 2026, Guevara has seen a reduced role.
Providing an update on his status in a Wrestling Observer subscriber exclusive, Bryan Alvarez addressed recent speculation surrounding Guevara’s future after the wrestler changed his social media description, leading to rumours that he could be on his way out of AEW.
“Nobody in AEW seems to know what’s up with Sammy Guevara right now. Multiple sources told me that Tay Melo requested a release last year but it was denied. It’s expected we will know what’s up when everyone gets to TV tomorrow.”
-Bryan Alvarez
AEW’s fanbase remains divided on what they would like to see next from Sammy Guevara and his wife, Tay Melo. Many fans are hoping to see Melo receive a renewed push, including a continuation of her partnership with Anna Jay and a potential run at the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championships. The duo were among the first established women’s tag teams in AEW, and some fans have expressed interest in seeing them eventually capture the titles.
Sammy Guevara was viewed as one of AEW’s most promising young talents during the early years of the company, with his in-ring ability quickly establishing him as a standout performer. The former AEW and Ring of Honor champion has captured multiple championships across both promotions, although issues outside the ring have impacted his momentum at times.
Additionally, while the other “Four Pillars” have developed strong character identities, Guevara has struggled to reach the same level of prominence in that area. That said, Jack Perry experienced a similar trajectory before his breakout run in the Continental Classic last year, and he is now viewed by many as an important part of AEW’s future.
Should Guevara’s time with All Elite Wrestling be coming to an end, attention will inevitably turn to what comes next. In recent years, Ethan Page, Ricky Saints (formerly Ricky Starks), and Jade Cargill have all made the jump from AEW to WWE, each experiencing varying levels of success.
