Santino Marella believes TNA’s setup provides more freedom.

Since first signing with the company in 2023, Santino Marella has been a mainstay of TNA television as their Director of Authority, an on-screen leadership role. Whilst Marella is largely retired, he has also dusted off his singlet for occasional matches. As a result, the man billed from Calabria, Italy has been able to perform alongside his daughter, Arianna Grace, for the company as well. However, it’s not just sentimentality which Marella sees in his current home promotion.

Speaking with WeRWrestling, Marella shared what he sees jn TNA as a promotion.

“TNA is not overproduced. We don’t have 15 writers. We don’t have 15 producers. We have more freedom. The individuals in the ring have a little more freedom. You hear about back in the golden day of wrestling, they didn’t write their promos for them. They knew their characters. They came from other territories. You’ll hear guys like Roddy Piper back in the day say, ‘Yeah, they didn’t write any promos for me,’ and that was the golden era. I know today it’s different. You’re on television. You’re on a network. There has to be some quality control. You gotta make sure that people aren’t saying things that are gonna offend sponsors and stuff. So you do have to know what’s happening on television basically every second to protect yourself, but I think that’s one of the strengths of TNA is that we do have some more creative freedom at the individual level.”
