‘La Primera’ had the choice to debut on WWE’s main roster.

Back in September, Stephanie Vaquer made her first appearance on WWE TV when she interrupted a press conference between Giulia and Roxanne Perez on NXT. She has since gone on to become a dominant force on the brand and currently reigns as the Women’s North American Champion. Now, the 31-year-old has discussed why she chose to sign with WWE and, in particular, why she opted to begin in NXT.

Speaking to Bully Ray on Busted Open After Dark, Vaquer said that WWE gave her the choice to start on the main roster but she was keen to start on NXT so she had a chance to learn English and acclimatise to the company’s style.

“My dream. WWE is my dream… I tried to think like adult, that option. But WWE is my dream and say, okay, this is for me. Many options and talks but, say no. WWE is for me and I take NXT because I really like (to) do things or new things but good. I don’t like the fast and no good. So, I say okay, I need to learn English, I need to learn TV show, I need to learn American style, WWE style. So I say, first I say main roster. That changed and say, ‘I want to go to NXT for learn…’ Yeah (WWE asked me if I wanted to start on the main roster)… Main roster (was my first answer). The first call, they call me and say, ‘NXT or main roster?’ I say, ‘Main roster…’ Yeah, I think and say, ‘Okay. Take it easy. I need to learn English… Okay, change. NXT.’”

Up next for Stephanie Vaquer is a champion vs champion clash with NXT Women’s Champion Giulia at NXT Roadblock on March 11 with both titles on the line. The pair have only faced once before, with Vaquer coming out on top when they met in STARDOM in March 2024.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Stephanie Vaquer as soon as we hear more.
