Sting has been with AEW since December of 2020 when he debuted in spectacular fashion at Winter Is Coming. He’s been a constant in the corner of Darby Allin throughout his AEW run, taking part in many tag matches alongside the current TNT Champion and even becoming synonymous with Tony Schiavone’s specific call during his entrance.
Though, we may not be able to hear Tony Schiavone’s epic call of Sting’s name upon his entrance for much longer as it’s been revealed that ‘The Icon’ Sting’s contract is up soon. He was recently profiled by DMagazine in which it was revealed that Sting’s contract will expire this year, though no exact date was given.
“His deal with AEW expires sometime this year; he won’t say exactly when. When it ends, so will his time behind the face paint. So many of the guys retire and then they come back, and I thought, ‘I’m not going to be like all the rest of the guys, Just like I said in the beginning, ‘I’m not going to be in this in 45 years.’ And here I am.”

When Sting’s retirement date eventually comes, it will be a sad day in pro wrestling. As for his next appearance, Darby and Sting as set to team up with The Great Muta to take on Hakushi, AKIRA, and Naomichi Marufuji as part of Muta’s final match on January 22.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on Sting’s contract status, as well as the prospect of him retiring as soon as we hear more.
