WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin had the chance to share the ring with some of the biggest names to ever grace the industry during his legendary career, including the likes of The Rock, Bret Hart, Triple H, and The Undertaker. Due to retiring in 2003, however, there were many all-time greats that Austin never had the chance to compete with, with some of the biggest omissions being John Cena, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar.
During a recent interview with WESH 2 News, Austin revealed that he was scheduled to have a match with Lesnar at one point, although creative issues ultimately prevented the bout from coming to fruition. The multi-time World Champion went on to label Lesnar as the opponent he regrets never sharing the ring with the most.
“That guy is Brock Lesnar. Way back in the day, I was scheduled to wrestle him in Atlanta at a television taping. The match wasn’t great as far as creative goes, so it never happened. That’s the match that got away. I have so much respect for Brock and watching him go through the evolution of becoming one of the best pros out there. To go into the MMA world and become a world champion. He’s had a heck of a journey and no one has had a career like his and his longevity has been supreme. Brock Lesnar would be my answer.”

Whilst a bout between Austin and Lesnar never came to be during the ‘Texas Rattlesnake”s prime, a match between the pair isn’t totally out of the question for the future, as Austin shockingly returned to the ring to take on Kevin Owens in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 last year, with WWE reportedly open to offering Austin further opportunities to get back in the ring should he desire to do so.
Austin himself revealed that he didn’t feel as though he had the time to get into in-ring shape for a match at WrestleMania 39 earlier this month, however with Lesnar still active in WWE, its possible that a match could be made between the two legends down the line.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the prospect of Stone Cold Steve Austin returning to the ring to take on Brock Lesnar as soon as we hear more.
