Swerve Strickland Discusses How He’d Redesign The AEW World Trios Championships

Swerve Strickland thinks The Young Bucks should be removed from the AEW World Trios Championships.

One of the smaller things many have liked about All Elite Wrestling since its inception is the designs of its title belts. While a few have been altered, with the Women’s World Title in particular going through a few iterations before the promotion landed on what they have today, AEW’s championships are one of the more universally appreciated aspects of their presentation. However, a current champion has now criticised the design of their belt.

During an interview with Don Chenz, Swerve Strickland called out one specific issue about the AEW World Trios Championships.

“Take the Young Bucks off of it. It is the Young Bucks throwing Superkicks on the side plates. We’ve had so many Trios Champions since then. If you get the new championships, you put at least the trios team on it. The Young Bucks aren’t even a trios, it’s just two people on a Trios Championship.”

He does have a point. For key belts, like the Men’s World Title, title holders often get to change the side plates in order to reflect the new champion. The World Trios Titles likely had the Young Bucks on there because they, alongside Kenny Omega, were the first title holders. However, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to add extra personality to the titles by putting new plates on for the current belt holders.

It could also be the case that Swerve Strickland is using this to further tease a trios match between himself, The New Level taking on The Elite, a match many have wanted since Austin Creed and Kofi joined the roster. For now, though, the current World Trios Champions have to prepare to face The Demand next Wednesday, and possibly Hangman Page and Brodido at All Out.
