AEW’s new World Champion has hit back at Grayson Waller.

Earlier this month, WWE’s Grayson Waller made an appearance on Going Ringside with News4Jax to promote their upcoming show on May 17th in Jacksonville, during which he said “Finally, some good wrestling in Jacksonville. I feel like it’s been years since we’ve seen some really good wrestling in Jacksonville.”, which many inferred to be a shot at All Elite Wrestling.

With AEW set to return to Jacksonville later tonight, new AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland also made an appearance on Going Ringside and was asked whether he felt Waller’s comments were a veiled shot at AEW.

“Obviously (it was a subtle dig at AEW) and I love the subtleties. And this person that said that, congratulations on their championship gold, amazing. You were awesome when you were watching me in the seats when I was being a champion over where you were as well. So, happy to see where you’ve progressed to but let’s be real, we are the best wrestling not just in Jacksonville but anywhere on the globe. In the world, and I stand on business on that.”

Swerve Strickland (then Isiah Scott) and Grayson Waller were both members of the NXT roster in 2021, with Strickland holding the North American Championship at the time.

After defeating Samoa Joe this past Sunday at AEW: Dynasty to become the new AEW World Champion, Swerve will face Kyle Fletcher during tonight’s episode of Dynamite in a title eliminator match, whilst Waller is currently one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions alongside Austin Theory as A-Town Down Under.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the reaction to Waller’s perceived shot at AEW as soon as we hear more.
