WWE have reportedly not yet secured The Rock for another match.

As we head towards WrestleMania, fans are debating the direction of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. For most of the last year, many presumed that 2024’s ‘Mania main event will play out much like 2023’s did, with Cody Rhodes closing out the show by challenging Roman Reigns, but, given his recent Raw return, viewers are now wondering whether it’ll be The Rock who stands face-to-face with The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania.

To provide the latest update on whether the wheels are in motion for Dwayne Johnson to step back in between the ropes, Dave Meltzer has written in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has said that Rock is yet to sign with WWE as of this week, despite The Great One’s known desire to work with Roman Reigns.

“According to WWE sources, Johnson has not officially signed a deal to wrestle for the company but the key word said about that is “Yet.” It is known that he is willing and said to be wanting to do a match with Roman Reigns and is strong on doing it at WrestleMania, but that is not locked in as of this week.”

Some have wondered whether it may be possible to satisfy all possible challengers by staging Reigns vs The Rock at a different show other than WrestleMania. However, the report notes that Johnson himself shot down a suggestion of doing the match at a Saudi Arabia show, being ‘headstrong’ about ‘Mania being the place that he clashes with Roman.

It was suggested to us the idea of seeing how much Saudi Arabia would pay extra to get a Dwayne Johnson match given the crazy numbers they’ve paid for boxing matches, although it was noted that Johnson himself sees WrestleMania a this point as what he is most interested in. One person in the company noted that Johnson was “headstrong” about wrestling Reigns at WrestleMania.”

Of course, it’s still possible that Rock and WWE come to terms on a deal which sees the star headline WrestleMania with a match against Roman Reigns, but, for now at least, it appears that the main event of the show is still up in the air.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the possibility of The Rock wrestling at WrestleMania as soon as we hear more.
